Flora

In terms of flora, Extremadura shares many characteristics with the plant life found throughout the Mediterranean region. However, due to its specific habitats and climate, a great many distinctive plant species can be found here. Especially after a wet winter, there are few places in Europe where the flora is as abundantly in bloom as in Extremadura.

While the overall diversity of species may not be exceptional, this is more than compensated for by the sheer numbers of flowers, which can be truly spectacular. From February or March onwards, the dehesas can burst into bloom, reaching a peak in April and May. The sea of flowers — and their fragrance — is simply overwhelming.
